We as African Americans are dying disproportionately of preventable diseases. Because of this, we have to be more aware of what goes into our bodies. Here are a few tips we should watch for. Checking the labels on items should be customary
when going to the grocery store. The first item in a products ingredient list, is the most prevalent ingredient in that product. A good rule of thumb, if you have never heard of that ingredient it's probably not a good idea to eat it.
The next time you go shopping, do most of your food shopping on the outer edges of the grocery store. Try to avoid the inner isles. Generally speaking the out skirts of the store contain the fresh fruits, vegetables, meats and eggs, etc. Actual food. Make sure you don't go shopping while hungry, that increases your chances of impulse buying. Try eating meal or snack before going to the grocery store.
Here's a list of things we as African American should rarely eat. Cutting out processed sugars and fats is a great start to becoming healthier. So remember this. It isn't realistic to completely stop consuming these foods, but cutting back on them severely is a must to maintain our health.
