If we understand and accept the dynamic of America, it will be easier to understand the current nature of things. This society was made for, and caters to Europeans. We can't afford to "wait" to be accepted. As a black woman we must choose to be happy with who we are. We are constantly bombarded with images of "beauty" which often times doesn't resemble us. European features are considered the standard for beauty. Remember, this is a Eurocentric society, and should be expected. Even most of the "black models" have European like features, straight hair, lighter skin, and a narrow nose. Beauty is a myth. It's a marketing ploy. It's played on commercials, magazines, and movies. It has no intrinsic value, and it we don't know that we have it, unless we're told. We've seen what our community has done to try and reach the Eurocentric standards. Hair weaves, extensions, skin bleaching products, etc. Beauty doesn't mean that we have to adhere to the European standard of beauty. So, lets place a value on it. Lets set a standard that we can realistically reach.
