Eating healthier is essential to becoming healthier. We as African Americans must eat healthier to start to improve our health. What we eat, and when we eat are extremely important to helping us combat obesity, heart disease, and cancer. Here are a few tricky ways to eat healthier.
Try adding these simple tricks for this upcoming week.· Use smaller plates. This helps us eat smaller portions. If you normally eat on a dinner plate, try eating on a saucer - or at the very least a medium sized plate.
·Drink 2 glasses of water before having a meal. This gives our body that "full/satisfied feeling."
·Drink at least 1 glass of water after a meal.This should complete your meal and it aids in digestion.
·Drink a blended shake for snack or dessert (spinach, carrots, frozen fruit, water): this is an easy way to get us our fruit and vegetable servings.
·Eat 5-6 small meals a day so we are less likely to overeat.This also can cause our metabolism to speed up, which helps us lose weight.
·Have vegetables for a snack: carrots, cauliflower, broccoli, celery are great snacks.
·Eat natural appetite suppressors such as almonds, ginger root, avocados, fiber rich foods such as apples, wasabi (used in sushi)
·Drink green tea; and not the sugary green tea from the grocery store. You can either buy tea bags and add raw honey to it for taste. If you prefer a colder drink refrigerate it. A healthy community is a strong community.
