Why Black People Should Become Entrepreneurs by Daryl Bates
In order to build and sustain our black families and communities, we need to start the process of attaining wealth. We need ownership. We need our own businesses. With our own businesses we can then hire and support each other.
As black people in America, generally our path to financial success is a little more difficult to navigate. As a general rule we have to work harder, and smarter. That's just the way it is. However, we cannot use this as an excuse. Knowing that this is the case, is more than half the battle. With that being said income is required in this society. Not a nice thing to have or a want - it's a requirement! Income can provide food, shelter, and safety. Arguably the three most important factors in our lives. We need to control our own income.
As an entrepreneur, we have control over our finances, we have control over our production, over our marketing and our everyday activities. It puts us in a better situation to be able to contribute to our families and communities. We can sell anything that is legal, and start a business. I started a resale business on craigslist. We shouldn't let the title of entrepreneur scare us. It's providing our own income.
